Oh hai

WhyIoughtta hang my head in shame at the lack of posts in recent weeks but I come in peace, laden with a slamming selection of beats that I’ve been spinning this past month. Listen and (hopefully) love.

P.S. I’ve bigged up Alt-J on this blog before and with good reason, their new album is my favourite of 2012 thus far and I implore you all to get it when it’s out at the end of May. Corking debut I say, I say.

Aesop Rock – ‘Zero Dark Thirty’

Red Hot Chili Peppers – ‘Under The Bridge’ (Brummer Remix)

Alt-J – ‘Breezeblocks’ (No Ceremony Remix)

Chill Bump – ‘It’s Alive’

Sunny delight

HOLY FUCKBALLS. It’s getting worse, the last post was nigh on a week ago. Meh, it’s been sunny, I’ve been busy, life just happened – you get me? On that tip the tracks offered up here are all about these (hopeful) summer vibes that we’ve been rocking out to these past few days. I can almost taste the super strength Pimms.

Danny Brown – ‘Grown Up’

KO KO – ‘Float On’

Tanlines – ‘All Of Me’

Izabo – ‘I Like It’

Blame game

20 Mar

My last post was on Thursday. THURSDAY PEOPLE.  Yes I’m ashamed, yes I feel guilty, yes I am questioning my validity on this earth. The only way I can make things right is to post a lodda lodda tracks that will have your eardrums ringing until my next hit up. Call it evens? Swell.

Douglas Greed & Pascal Bidea – ‘Down Here’ (Marek Hemmann Remix)

Santigold – ‘Disparate Youth’ (The 2 Bears Remix)

Zebra Katz x Boyfriend – ‘W8WTF’

My new idol

I’m not going to pretend that I’m a long time fan of Mikhael Paskalev. In fact before today I hadn’t even heard of him. I then stumbled across this absolute jem of a video on the good ol’ internet and whaddya know? I am mesmerised. For someone that also likes to dance and lark about in their underwear this video is nothing short of inspirational.

Mikhael Paskalev – ‘I Spy’

Shes lost it

Today I’m posting a track by Usher. That’s right, Usher and I will tell you for why – because he has put out (with a little help from Diplo) one of the finest pop songs of recent years. Heeeear me out now.

The underlying synth beat is a masterclass in restraint and the man’s vocals are a piece of falsetto perfection. This track could have been something audacious and brash but no, by exerting some self control these two chaps have combined their efforts to create a genuinely lovely track. The video ain’t superb (Usher’s solo dancing/flailing/looks of despair did make me chuckle) but if you can get past that this song has all the ear-markings of an epic break-up track.

Usher (feat. Diplo) – ‘Climax

Bongo

12 Mar

This has knocked me for six I tells yus, I mean even with the extended edit at a sweet 6.49″ I never want it to end. If you get a chance check out the official (shorter) video of a man beating his bongos with a vigour to be admired. Jeez this is swoonful – not bad for a debut single, eh?

Night Works – ‘I Tried So Hard’

3 is the magic number

Destiny’s Child were blahdy brilliant. Truly they were the best example of what a girl group could be. Don’t give me The Saturdays or any of that nonsense, nah nah nah – Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle had it down (maybe it’s something to do with three lasses possessing a bit o’ swagger because TLC rank up there as well…).

I digress. What I’m trying to get across is the pure pop perfection that came with track after track after track and today I bring before you that pop element combined with a slamming beat, one that’s a bit garage, a bit dutty dub, a bit filthy in general. Owls & Bodhi have done an absolute job in turning this into a thumper. As one of the Soundcloud comments states: GOOD GOD.

Owls & Bodhi – ‘Say My Name’

The birdman

The whistling machine that is Andrew Bird was just swell last night. Silencing the Barbican Hall with his cray violin skills, pitch perfect vocals and general all-round dapperness Bird gave one ‘eck of a performance.

My friend’s only criticism from the show? “He didn’t play ‘Bird Is The Word'”. You can’t have it all kids.

Andrew Bird – ‘Give It Away’

Burial + Four Tet. Four Tet + Burial. No matter how you say those words it will always come off awesome, much like this track then… Quality effort gents, you really have made my Monday top notch.

Burial + Four Tet – ‘Nova’

So she slayed it last night – the gal truly is a wonderwoman.

Sharon Van Etten – ‘One Day’
